In Inlay township, in Shan State, local rescue teams delivered bamboo to villagers so they could rebuild their homes.
Outside Mandalay, volunteers have built 20 toilets in a village where over 25% of the houses were destroyed or damaged. Killer diseases like cholera risk spreading when people do not have access to basic sanitation, especially with the onset of the
monsoon rains.
In Mandalay, local volunteers had some money left over after delivering essential goods. They decided to buy simple toys to children in their area who were shaken and showing signs of trauma, as they had never experienced such a terrifying natural disaster before. They wrote to Advance Myanmar:
“In moments like these, joy is an act of resilience. That’s why the team members and the volunteers called this event ‘The gift of joy’. A heartfelt thank you to all donors and supporters who made this possible.”
These are just some of the stories from people Advance Myanmar has been able to help across Burma, thanks to your generosity. Thank you so much for your support, for donating to the emergency appeal and for sharing it on social media. The needs in the aftermath of the earthquake are still huge. Advance Myanmar is still being asked for support. If you are able, please consider donating to the appeal.
