🌍APRIL 2025 EDITION🌍

This month, we celebrated the work our mamas are doing to protect our planet and combat the climate crisis with Earth Day, as well as moms who are demanding necessary improvements on maternal health for Black Maternal Health Week. Not only that, we had one mama who played a major role in fighting for proxy voting in Congress! And the month isn’t over yet: we’re gearing up for our big endorsement rollouts launching this week!

ENDORSEMENT ROLLOUTS

The moment we have been waiting for since the start of the year is finally here! Our first round of 2025 endorsements will be launching THIS WEEK. This cycle, we’re strategically targeting battleground states at both the state and federal level, school board seats, gubernatorial races, and getting ahead on early endorsements for 2026!

Stay tuned for the latest updates as we roll out our official endorsement announcements in the upcoming days!

ALUM SPOTLIGHTS

  • Congress sparked a much-needed conversation about proxy voting earlier this month when Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) worked across the aisle to push for the Proxy Voting for New Parents Resolution, which would have allowed new moms and dads in Congress to vote by proxy for 12 weeks after welcoming a child. This was prompted after she had to fly from Colorado to Washington, D.C., with her newborn son to cast a vote on an important funding bill right after giving birth. GOP leadership blocked it. But Rep. Pettersen didn’t back down. Her efforts brought this issue to the forefront, forcing Republicans to address it directly and garnering a wave of public support. We’ve got Rep. Pettersen’s back, and we won’t stop fighting until moms in office have the tools they need to do their jobs.

  • Black Maternal Health Week occurs every April and is dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for improved maternal health outcomes for Black moms, who are THREE TIMES more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women in the U.S. Georgia State Rep. Dr. Jasmine Clark is just one of our Vote Mama alum who is fighting to change this in her state — where maternal mortality rates are nearly twice the national average— by pushing for Medicaid expansions to help combat the Black maternal mortality crisis by addressing disparities and inequities in our healthcare system. Rep. Clark already did the math to present her case, stating: “If Georgia were to expand Medicaid, approximately 229,000 women in the state would become eligible for coverage. Of those 229,000 women, 40% of them are likely Black women. That equates to almost 100,000 Black women in the state of Georgia who would gain access to a doctor who would gain access to health care.”
  • With Trump’s notorious pro-corporate, anti-environment agenda already underway, climate action feels more urgent than ever this Earth Month. We know how important it is to protect our planet for our families and future generations, which is why all of our Vote Mama candidates must pledge to: “Create urgency around climate justice and passing environmental protections” when we endorse them. Our climate champion mamas are working towards environmental justice and climate policy — like California Assemblymember Dawn Addis, who joined nearly a dozen states to pass climate Superfund legislation. These “polluter pays” bills would hold industries like Big Oil accountable for their role in escalating the climate crisis by making them responsible for the growing costs of climate-related natural disasters.
