### A Crisis We Cannot Ignore
Dear John,
The U.S. Department of Justice recently announced cuts exceeding $800 million, slashing funding for hundreds of community programs that law enforcement and neighborhoods depend on — programs that prevent violence, provide mental health support, help victims heal, and keep people out of crisis before tragedy strikes.
**Without these vital services, community health and public safety will suffer.** Officers will be stretched even thinner. Communities will lose critical lifelines. The burden will fall hardest on those already at risk. LEAP is speaking out because we know these programs work — and cutting them now is both shortsighted and dangerous. [We urge you to read our full statement here or below, and join us in amplifying this urgent call to action.]([link removed])

**We can’t let these cuts go unchallenged.**
If you believe in building safer, healthier communities, please help us spread the word. Forward this message, share our statement on social media, and make your voice heard. Together, we can push for a better path forward.
In solidarity,
**Lt. Diane Goldstein (Ret.), Executive Director**
