Legislative Update
Dear Neighbors,
Easter Break was eventful….
During the break I attended the Fentanyl-Free Communities Event in Forest Lake. Hearing from families who have lost loved ones to this poison made for a very emotional evening and reinforced my commitment to finding solutions for the growing problem. Knowing our communities are not immune to these senseless tragedies I cosigned HF 1446- a bill that increases penalties for those who mix fentanyl with other substances.
REM Program Ponds, North Branch, invited me to tour their wonderful home last week. It was incredible to see Marie and her team provide such a nurturing environment for the vulnerable people of our community. They have opportunities to garden, build bird houses, and foster community. My family and I drive, or bike, past their location enroute to Kwik Trip almost daily (My kids really like their corndogs.). So, it was an honor to see firsthand how these servant hearted care providers give their residents a fulfilling life.

Chisago County Sheriff Brandon Thyen and I met to discuss several public safety issues, including funding for our officers’ ongoing training. He provided a tour of the Chisago County Public Safety Center where I saw the top-notch operation and met the great booking staff and emergency call operators. We are in good hands! I was proud to be endorsed by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association in November and will continue to stand with law enforcement.

Taylor Falls Mayor Brandon Weiberg joined me at the Capitol for a Hearing to repair a sewer line in his district.

We continue to work on the Budget and Omnibus Bills every day. I am looking at each budget through these criteria:
* Are we cutting spending, as needed, due to the $6 billion dollar deficit?
* Are we spending the money wisely?
* Is your money going toward the end-user (government services) or is it wrapped up in bureaucracy? For example - department administration should not grow while our school districts are cutting teachers.
My goal is to protect the taxpayers of Minnesota.
