Trump’s “Peace Plan” for Ukraine: A Gift to Putin

Around the World

Hello, John!

Welcome back to Around the World with Olya Makarova, your trusted source for breaking down how global events impact America’s future.

Today’s update is critical: as Ukraine fights for survival against Russian aggression, Donald Trump’s growing weakness on the world stage is sending dangerous signals to dictators like Vladimir Putin. Here’s what you need to know — and why it matters now more than ever.

Trump’s “Peace Plan” for Ukraine

Last week, Donald Trump took to social media to demand: “Vladimir, STOP!”

But behind the scenes, Trump is doing the opposite. His proposed “peace deal” doesn’t pressure Russia to end its war — it rewards their aggression. And it sends a devastating message to Ukraine: after all their sacrifices, the United States might abandon them for the sake of a quick political win.

Here’s what’s really happening:

Russia’s Brutality Escalates

Ukraine is under siege. In recent days, Russia has launched some of the most devastating attacks of the war.

On April 13, Palm Sunday, Russian missiles struck the city of Sumy during an award ceremony at a Ukrainian cultural center. Thirty-six civilians were killed and more than a hundred injured, in what Ukrainian officials are calling one of the worst atrocities against civilians since 2023.

Just days later, on April 24, Russian forces unleashed another massive assault on Kyiv. A barrage of ballistic missiles and drones rained down on the capital, killing at least 12 civilians and injuring over 90 more. Residential buildings were hit. Children were among the wounded.

This is not a frozen conflict; it’s an ongoing assault on innocent people, and it is escalating.

Yet in the face of these horrors, Trump is offering Putin everything he could have dreamed of.

Trump’s Deal

Concessions for Russia, corporate carve-outs for America; Trump’s proposed plan reportedly includes:

-Official recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea.

-Freezing Russian territorial gains in place, locking in their occupation of eastern Ukraine.

-Blocking Ukraine from joining NATO.

-Lifting most U.S. sanctions on Russia immediately.

-Granting U.S. companies access to Ukraine’s critical rare earth minerals and other industries as “compensation” for American aid.

In short, Trump is trying to turn Ukraine’s devastation into a business opportunity — one that benefits U.S. corporations, lets Russia keep what it has stolen, and sells out Ukraine’s sovereignty in the process.

It’s diplomacy, Trump-style: profit-driven, short-sighted, and dangerously naive.

A Window for Putin

This isn’t the first time Trump has opened the door for foreign autocrats to buy his favor.

Whether it’s asking Saudi Arabia for investments after shielding MBS, or greenlighting massive real estate deals for his family post-presidency, Trump has never hidden that he’s open to autocrats — so long as there’s something in it for him.

Now, as Ukraine reels from deadly missile strikes, Trump’s eagerness to “get a deal done” raises serious questions about whose interests are truly being served.

Because once again, the pattern is clear: a rushed negotiation, deeply favorable to a dictator, with American business interests carved out behind the scenes.

It’s a betrayal of Ukraine — and a betrayal of America’s role as a defender of democracy worldwide.

Ukraine and Europe Say No

Thankfully, Ukraine and its European allies are refusing to capitulate.

President Zelenskyy and European leaders have rejected Trump’s plan outright. Instead, they are proposing a real path to peace, one that includes:

-An immediate, unconditional ceasefire monitored by international observers.

-The full return of deported Ukrainian children and prisoners of war.

-Binding security guarantees to prevent future invasions.

-Continued seizure of frozen Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine.

Importantly, Ukraine has indicated a willingness to negotiate on Crimea, recognizing the difficult political realities on the ground. But they refuse to surrender half their country’s future for the sake of expedience.

Their courage deserves our respect and our support, not a backroom deal that sells them out.

What’s at Stake

Trump’s “peace plan” isn’t a plan for peace. It’s a payoff — for Putin, for big business, and potentially for Trump himself.

If Trump’s proposal moves forward, it will do more than hurt Ukraine. It will signal to every dictator in the world that war crimes can be rewarded, democracy can be sold, and America’s open for business.

We cannot allow that to happen.

Ukraine deserves a just peace — one that respects its sovereignty, protects its people, and upholds the principles that the free world depends on.

Thank you for standing with us at this critical moment.

With hope for a better future,

-Olya Makarova

We appreciate your support in this pivotal time.
