At No Kid Hungry, I meet a lot of heroes passionate about
helping provide children with the nutritious food they need to thrive.

Stella Ndahura is one of these heroes. Every day, Stella ensures that
elementary and high school students in her district in California have
access to a nutritious breakfast. The meals are prepared on-site using
basic ingredients instead of prepackaged or processed foods.

"Food is a basic need," says Stella. "[Kids] deserve
to eat meals. They deserve to get all the resources that are available
to them."
In New York City, Valrie Baker has been feeding kids in school for 25
years - and she takes immense pride in how her work impacts
these children. Valrie and her team provide 1,000 free meals to
students every day.
"I do this because I love the kids," Valrie says.
"Even if I take a day off, I'll be thinking about, wonder
if my kids eat today, if they get the proper meal. It's a lot
going through the mind. So, to make myself happy, I'm here. If
I'm here, they're going to eat."
Heroes like Stella and Valrie work hard every day to ensure kids get
