"

The House Homeland Security cyber subcommittee will hold a May hearing on the reauthorization of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015, according to Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), who emphasized the importance of law in response to introduction of an extension bill from Sens. Gary Peters (D-MI) and Mike Rounds (R-SD). 'The reauthorization of the Cyber Information Sharing Act is critical. We have a subcommittee hearing on the topic planned for next month. I'll continue speaking with public and private sector experts as we approach the upcoming deadline to ensure we find the best path forward,' Garbarino told Inside Cybersecurity in an April 17 statement. CISA 2015 is set to expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Cybersecurity Information Sharing Extension Act from Peters and Rounds would reauthorize the law for 10 years to 2035.

CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Resolving IRS Tax Return Issue

A constituent contacted Andrew's office for assistance with amended tax returns that had been denied by the IRS due to insufficient supporting documentation. After the denials, the constituent filed formal appeals for each tax year. Andrew's office intervened by reaching out to the Taxpayer Advocate Service, which helped expedite communication with the IRS Appeals department. As a result, the returns were successfully released, and the constituent received the refunds owed.

Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case.

KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS

Andrew Defends Italian-American Dual Citizenship Rights

This week, Andrew stood up for Italian Americans by calling on the U.S. Embassy in Italy to advocate for changes to the citizenship policy recently enacted by the Italian government. Last month, Italy issued a provisional decree-law restricting the qualifications for dual citizenship. "At a time when the transatlantic relationship is under new pressures, the reassuring voices of 20 million Italian Americans serve as bridges between our nations. Therefore, we strongly urge you to share with the appropriate Italian government officials the drastic impact the new decree-law will have on millions of Italian Americans and to consider supporting these changes," Andrew wrote in a letter signed with other Members of the Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD). As a proud Italian American and Co-Vice Chair of the IACD, Andrew remains deeply committed to preserving the rich cultural ties between Italy and the United States and representing the hundreds of thousands of Italian Americans on Long Island.
