Nottingham City Council has been awarded over £16million in funding from EMCCA to make improvements to transport and roads across our city

More than £16m of external funding will be invested into Nottingham city’s transport network in 2025/26 thanks to the new East Midlands Combined County Authority [ [link removed] ]


* EMCCA, which has now taken over the role of directing the allocation of local transport funding, is providing funding for projects in Nottingham - including a 100% increase in the money available for road maintenance.
* This will be used to carry out resurfacing and preventative road maintenance to tackle potholes and improve safety, including on Porchester Road, Bestwood Park Drive, A6514 Valley Road and B6004 Arnold Road.
* Thanks to this funding: seven roads will be completely resurfaced, three part-resurfaced, 22 will have preventative work on the entire road and three will have preventative work on part of the road.

Porchester Road
First phase of cycling and walking upgrades completed on Porchester Road

Work has finished on phase one of the Active Travel England-funded improvements on Porchester Road in Mapperley.

Nottingham City Council were awarded over £1.7 million from the Active Travel Fund for investment along Porchester Road. This funding has enabled the council to deliver a modern pedestrian and cycling-friendly scheme, with clear segregation from traffic. To date, the council has built a segregated, two-way cycle path on Porchester Road – beginning at Burgass Road and finishing at Cherrywood Gardens. Phase two of the programme has just started.

Streets for People
Streets for People programme making good progress

Over 45 schemes have been completed so far across the city. Using £5.85 million investment from the Government’s Local Transport Plan, we are continuing with the Streets for People programme to improve roads/paths and make walking and cycling easier and safer.

The roads chosen for improvement have been put forward by local people and prioritised by councillors. The programme consists of standard road resurfacing and preventative maintenance to ensure the funds go as far as possible. The work for phase two of the Streets for People programme is on track to finish in September 2025.

Latest update on new cycling and pedestrian bridge over Trent

* The warehouse that used to house Flo Skatepark has now been demolished – making the space needed to assemble the massive bridge and for a crane to lift it into place this autumn
* Thank you for your patience while the path between the river and playparks at the Hook, Holme Road, Lady Bay, was closed. The path has now been transformed from rocky and muddy to smooth and flat tarmac. It will be much better for all users, but especially those using a scooter, bike, wheelchair or pushchair and will form a key part of our diversion while the riverside path is closed.
* The path along the riverside between Lady Bay Bridge and where it meets the path to the playpark, shown in red below, will be closed from 5 May until spring 2026 when the bridge opens. We apologise both for the inconvenience and length of closure which is necessary while we build and lift the bridge into place, as well as making improvements to this footpath. Pedestrian and bike diversion routes are shown on our map which can also be seen here [ [link removed] ].

Maid Marian Way project moves into new phase

A new five week construction phase began on our Maid Marian Way project on Tuesday 22 April. During these works, Upper Parliament Street outbound will be reduced to *one lane. That means you will need to allow more time to make a journey through the area.*

Works will take place to install the kerbs on the north side first and then switch to the south side.  This will require the adjacent lane to the kerb works to be taken out to provide safe working space. Inbound traffic to Upper Parliament Street will be maintained at all times, and traffic management arrangements will be switched, but the effect will be* just one lane outbound from Upper Parliament Street to the junction for this 5 week period.* Bus stops will be unaffected.

During this phase, Mount St will be unaffected as will Maid Marian Way northbound and Tollhouse Hill southbound.

New and upgraded digital displays now live

New and upgraded digital displays have gone up around Nottingham which provide bus and tram passengers with live journey information.
