John,
For decades, outdated federal marijuana laws have fueled the American crisis of mass incarceration, disproportionately targeted communities of color, and prevented back progress — even though a vast majority of Americans support legalization.
It’s long past time for Congress to catch up.
That’s why we’re calling on Congress to pass the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act, which would finally end federal cannabis prohibition and begin to repair the extensive damage caused by the failed War on Drugs. The Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act would take a powerful first step by:
- Removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act
- Expunging nonviolent federal cannabis convictions from criminal records
- Supporting small businesses and social equity applicants
- Reinvesting in communities hit hardest by over-policing
- Protecting state laws and expand full, legal access to medical cannabis for veterans
Millions of Americans already live in states where cannabis is legal. It’s time to bring federal law in line with reality — and create a fairer, more just future for all.
Add your name now to demand Congress pass the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act and end the federal war on marijuana.
Thank you for signing on,
— Democratic Values
