Team — Another school. Another shooting. Another failure of leadership for our young people.

Last week there was a deadly shooting at Florida State University. It seems the political establishment has become so used to these tragedies that it was just another story in the week’s news cycle. It’s disappointing, and an injustice to the victims and the millions of people in America who have been affected by gun violence.

The truth is, despite all of the chaos of our time, we have to keep having tough conversations about gun safety and pushing forward the movement for gun violence prevention legislation.

Here in Massachusetts we have some of the lowest rates of gun violence in the country, and that’s not by accident. We are proving that smart policy that puts people over the NRA and the far-right gun lobby can save lives.

Now we need to extend those results to the entire nation. Progress has been made in recent years, but we have to get more ambitious if we are to finally prevent the kind of gun violence that is unheard of anywhere else around the world.

We hope that you stay with us in this important struggle. No one should have to live in fear of gun violence at school, at work, in their neighborhood, or anywhere else. It doesn’t have to be like this, and we will keep pushing until we see results.
