Hello John,
You will be aware of deeply concerning reports about the possibility that the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) may be abolished.
NYCI, alongside the Children's Rights Alliance and others have been lobbying hard for the retention of the DCYA in the next Government.
To support this work there are a number of ways you can lend your voice online right now.
- Right now, I would ask you to vote in this poll on the journal.ie (currently running very close):
Other Actions you can take:
Email the party leaders: We have contacted party leaders to request a meeting on this as a matter of urgency. You can join the call. Download the email template prepared by the Children's Rights Alliance here and email the party leaders to remind them of the importance of retaining the Department.
Social media: Use #TheDCYAMustStay to lend your voice to the campaign online, and reshare campaign messages.
Petitions: Members of the National Youth Council of Ireland’s Action panel started a petition to retain the DCYA. You can sign and share here.
The proposal that the Department now may be dismantled and its functions be cast to the four winds is a betrayal of this generation of children and young people and must be rejected.
We will continue to work on this issue on your behalf, and urge you to add your voice,
Kind regards,
Mary
