Hi John,
I got my start knocking on doors for candidates I believe in. And when I first thought about running for office, I was a working mom living paycheck to paycheck, and I didn’t see many people in government who looked like me or shared my story.
But Emerge New Mexico saw something in me, and with their training, I gained the skills and confidence to run for office (and win!). Step by step, I went from knocking on doors to becoming one of the first Native American women elected to Congress, and later, the first Native American to serve in a President’s Cabinet.
