Democrat,
Since 1970, Americans have come together on Earth Day to celebrate the natural beauty of our planet and to recommit ourselves to its protection and preservation. Fifty-five years later, this mission is more important than ever.
Here in New Jersey, we’re feeling the impact of the climate crisis already as sea levels rise along our iconic shores, communities are hit with overwhelming flooding, and storms come more frequently. Residents of all political stripes in our state want to see action taken to mitigate these effects—and Democrats are the only leaders delivering. Whether it’s ushering in the most consequential climate action bill in U.S. history or becoming the first state in the nation to mandate K-12 climate change education across all subjects, New Jersey Democrats are fighting for our future down in Washington and Trenton.
Meanwhile, Trump is dragging the country backward. In one of his first moves after taking office—again—he began the process of pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement again , choosing polluters over people and putting short-term profits ahead of long-term survival.
Climate action isn’t just a policy choice. It’s a MORAL one. And while Trump shrugs at science and sells out our future, New Jersey Democrats are doubling down on a cleaner, greener future for everyone. Because protecting our planet means protecting our communities, our economy, and our future.
In this week’s newsletter, we debunk the statements the Trump Administration has pedaled around their anti-environmental MAGA agenda. We also take a moment to reflect on the legacy of Pope Francis and the lessons of Yom HaShaoh.
I invite you to also check out our upcoming events [[link removed]] this month and find new ways to get involved.

The Trump Administration’s long standing practice of simply making up bold statements despite clear and fierce pushback from experts continued this Earth Day as they tried to claim “we finally have a president who follows science.”
No matter how hard they try to reframe their actions, we know the truth. Every major conservation group has been loud and clear about the negative effects President Trump’s repeated attempts to dismantle critical safety regulations, public land protections, and clean energy efforts have and will have on our planet.
We invite you to take a closer look at these so-called environmentally friendly initiatives [[link removed]] and NOT be distracted by the President’s loud and often wrong declarations. Behind the bluster is a pattern of broken promises, dismissal of science, and executive orders that rarely live up to the headlines.

Claim:
While he was unveiling new executive orders, Donald Trump referred to coal as “clean” energy [[link removed]] , blamed Obama-era regulations for the decline of the coal industry, and said countries like Germany are “opening coal plants all over.”
The Truth:
Coal isn’t making a comeback, no matter how many executive orders Trump signs. The industry’s decline wasn’t caused by environmental rules, but by market forces: natural gas and renewables are simply cheaper and better for the environment.
As for “clean coal”? That’s a marketing term, not a reality. There is no such thing. And Trump’s so-called “revival” of coal saw more plant closures than openings — over 50 coal plants shut down during his presidency. Even major coal companies went bankrupt. [[link removed]]
And Germany? It’s phasing coal out, not ramping it up. Despite a short-term bump during the energy crisis, the country is still on track to shut down all coal plants by 2038.
Impact on New Jersey:
Coal’s decline means cleaner air and better health outcomes, especially for communities near power plants. New Jersey has invested in offshore wind, solar, and energy efficiency — creating jobs and cutting emissions . Rolling back that progress to chase a coal fantasy would hit our environment and economy hard. Click HERE [[link removed]] to learn the facts on Trump’s false claims.

As the Trump administration wages war on diversity initiatives, New Jersey is standing its ground. A new bill [[link removed]] from Assemblyman Reginald Atkins (D-Union) would require every state department and agency to establish an office of diversity, equity, and inclusion — each led by a chief DEI officer. These offices would be tasked with advancing cross-cultural education, promoting equity in the workplace, and ensuring government reflects the diversity of the Garden State. The legislation also makes clear: no DEI data would be shared with immigration enforcement. While Trump pushes to dismantle DEI nationwide, New Jersey is trying to solidify it.

Additionally, our Phone & Text Bank campaign is officially underway — and we’re off to a strong start! This week, both new and returning volunteers showed up to power our efforts, making thousands of calls to connect with Democrats across the state. Together, we reminded voters about their vote-by-mail ballots and made sure they received them.

This week, we also pause to honor the legacy of a global leader who reminded the world what moral courage looks like: Pope Francis. Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis was a remarkable leader, redirecting the moral compass of global Catholicism toward justice, compassion, and humility.
Thank you, Pope Francis, for reminding the world that real strength is measured not by how loudly you rule, but how deeply you care.

As we reflect on Yom HaShoah, let us remember the importance of honoring the memories of those murdered during the Holocaust, teaching this history to the next generations, and ensuring that the voices of those who fought against fascism continue to inspire us in our work today.
