Dear John,

Last week, OLCV/Oregon Conservation Network (OCN) designated two more bills as Major Threats to our environment,  HB 3103-5 and HB 2403. In case you aren’t keeping count, that’s four Major Threats so far this session – the most we’ve faced in a while.

What all of this means is that we are being forced to spend too much of our time in the Capitol defending against threats to past wins and future progress. We need your help now to ensure that we have the resources we need to secure wins for our climate and environment this session, and stop these threats. Will you make an urgent gift to OLCV today to help?

Make your gift now

Here is a snapshot of all of our Major Threats that are still active this session:

  • The Wolf Compensation Bill (SB 777 -5) would multiply up to 5x the fair market value paid for livestock killed by wolves. The multiplier, if applied, could rapidly drain half of the program’s funds and lead to less support for proven, non-lethal coexistence tools.
  • Minimum logging level for state forest land (HB 3103-5) would set minimum logging levels established by the State Forester to be set through rulemaking and legally enforceable. Once annual levels are established for state forests, any volume not harvested in one year must be added to the following year’s harvest. This will create unrelenting pressure for the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) to increase harvests without an equal opportunity to adjust levels to ensure sustainable forest management.
  • Predator Control Districts (HB 2403) would allow formation of local “predator damage control districts” to fund the federal “Wildlife Services” to kill Oregon’s wildlife that are deemed a threat to private property, without having to use or consider non-lethal methods.

With your help, we have already killed one Major Threat this session – HB 3119. Now, I’m asking for your help again to stop these current threats.

Please make an urgent contribution of whatever amount is right to you so we can stop these Major Threats to a Healthy Oregon in their tracks.

Give now

With Trump dismantling the EPA and doing everything he can to destroy our environment, now is not the time for us to backslide on our progress here in Oregon. What we allow this session will become the precedent for the next one. I hope you’ll join us in putting your foot down on these threats to our progress.

All of our priority bills are moving through the legislature (click here to see them all), at the same time as these Major Threats. We need your help to stop them while we continue to make progress on climate. We can’t do this without you. Our work begins with you! Can you chip in what you’re able to now, so we can keep fighting these bills and for more climate progress in the State Capitol next week?

Together,

Eliza Walton (she/they)
