Friend,
By now, you’ve probably already heard about Donald Trump using the presidency to attack the ability of his political opponents to make grassroots donations to the causes of their choice via ActBlue. If you haven’t, here is a link to his baseless and purely political “memorandum.”
Instead of a whiny email begging for money, we felt an obligation to reach out to stakeholders like you to inform you of our plan of action.
When we first heard the news on Wednesday afternoon, we quickly shifted gears. |
- We backed up all donor information.
- We reached out to our elected officials and county chairs and shared what we knew.
- We set up online donation links that are off the ActBlue site, just in case.
-
We are prepared to launch these new links across platforms.
- We prepared our communications and digital teams to engage in rapid response on these items, if necessary.
|
Because this order did not immediately shut down ActBlue as we were concerned, most of these items became unnecessary practices, but still important in the event this escalates.
It’s our understanding that if there is any effort to trample your First Amendment rights by shutting down ActBlue, they are prepared to take the Trump Admin to court. We’ll be here to support that effort any way we can.
The Texas Democratic Party is prepared to fight back against these types of attacks on your First Amendment rights as they progress throughout this president’s tenure. In that process, we will always ensure your data is protected and our online donation apparatus is fully functional, to the best of our ability.
Thank you for your patience with us as we work to adjust to these political attacks. Know that if your grassroots financial support of organizations like ours weren’t so important, they wouldn’t be trying to take it away from you. We’re grateful to you for sticking with us and for your financial support throughout this uncertain time.
Forever with you in this fight to protect our republic,
|
