Last night, I couldn’t turn away from the coverage of the Georgia primary. I was keeping up with the race of my friend Nabilah, who’s running for Congress in Georgia’s 7th District. But what was so shocking and blatant was the voter suppression and disenfranchisement on full display. Our country cannot continue to suppress and disenfranchise people of color—especially Black Americans. Voter suppression was happening in Georgia. Full stop.

From long lines where voters had to wait for hours to sharing misleading information and materials to voters, it has to end. We need to protect voters from being denied the right to register and/or vote and support efforts in Congress to pass minimum standards that ensure every eligible voter is automatically registered in federal elections.

I support legislative initiatives that strengthen and protect an individual's right to vote.

I believe in the restoration of rights for felons along with allowing incarcerated individuals to vote.

I promise you, if elected, I will not stop fighting for a 21st century Voting Rights Act. I’ll even go further. We need to empower the Department of Justice to vigorously enforce it.

Republicans are showing us their playbook ahead of the November general elections. Americans' right to vote will be encumbered, suppressed, and obstructed and we have to be prepared now to deal with it.
