Yesterday, Donald Trump announced he was using the resources of his office to go after ActBlue, the largest grassroots donation system in Democratic politics.

In both of my elections, I have faced heavy outside spending from far-right ultra-wealthy organizations, which could cut six- and seven-figure checks with ease. A huge part of our success has been the hard work of our local coalitions, working every day to ensure our communities' feelings are heard, and rallying new supporters to our cause. And part of expressing their voices has been through ActBlue.

38% of all donations I’ve ever received have been $5 or less. That is the power of ActBlue: connecting individuals to make a collective, larger voice for change. When hundreds of thousands of people chip in together, those donations really start to add up.

Even as they’ve used unfettered dark money after Citizens United to force their authoritarian agenda items through over the past 15 years, Trump and his MAGA cronies know how important our grassroots supporters have been, and that’s why they want to shut ActBlue down. They argued for decades that money is speech, and now they want to take your voice away for good.

We can’t let Trump set the stage for coup-like antics next November, and blocking our opposition is one of the surest ways to rig Congress for good. We HAVE to push back on this – now.
