The U.S. Supreme Court just agreed to hear a case that could decide whether we continue to have birthright citizenship in this country. This is a HUGE test for our democracy.
Trump, following through on his promise to be a dictator on Day 1, issued an executive order to end automatic birthright citizenship – a right that has been in the Constitution for over 150 years – on his first day back in office as part of his racist attacks on immigrants.
What Trump is doing is unconstitutional — plain and simple. Every court where this plan has been challenged has blocked it, and both liberal and conservative legal experts agree the Constitution is clear.
When our foundational rights are at risk, we can’t be silent. We need to make sure the far-right majority Supreme Court, including three Trump-appointed justices, follows the rule of law instead of letting Trump get his way.
