Recent hostilities in Lebanon have caused alarming levels of exploitation, violence, and other protection risks among women and girls.

“It’s women and girls again who bear the brunt of all these conflict situations,” Andrew Saberton , UNFPA Deputy Executive Director of Management, said of the challenging situation in Lebanon.

Over half of those displaced in Lebanon are women, who face higher risks of exploitation and abuse. Without the stability of a safe home, UNFPA-supported clinics and safe spaces have been a lifeline for women and girls displaced by conflict.

However, the termination of US funding grants has significantly limited our ability to protect women and girls in Lebanon. This setback is not just impacting our organization, but also countless others engaged in humanitarian work around the world. The ripple effect of such funding cuts is profound, leaving critical gaps in support services for vulnerable populations and stalling progress in areas that desperately need our help.

The number of women and girls’ safe spaces has already been reduced from 19 to 10 , with more at risk of closure. This leaves the most vulnerable in Lebanon without care, and forces them to face the consequences of violence alone.
