John—

I’ve heard from so many of you over the last two weeks who have been moved
and inspired by the Movement for Black Lives and the mobilization of
millions of people for a new vision for our country. The NARAL community,
like so many others, wants to know how to engage more deeply in the fight
to confront racism.

We know that anti-racist work starts with an individual commitment to want
to listen and learn and do better. And we also recognize that we as an
organization have an opportunity to offer resources for learning that can
strengthen our community and our collective work.

That’s why we’re partnering with MoveOn, Indivisible, Progressive Change
Campaign Committee, and Ultraviolet to host an anti-racism Facebook Live
series to bring our millions of members together to learn about the
significance of the Movement for Black Lives protests and what comes next.

Together, we’ll focus on education and organizing to be stronger allies
and fully embrace a stance of anti-racism. [ [link removed] ]Will you join us for the
first livestream tomorrow at 5pm ET/2pm PT?

You might be asking yourself: “What’s an anti-racist?” Ibram X. Kendi, who
popularized the term in his book How to Be an Antiracist, explains:

“The opposite of racist isn't 'not racist.' It is 'anti-racist.' What's
the difference? … One either allows racial inequities to persevere, as a
racist, or confronts racial inequities, as an anti-racist. There is no
in-between safe space of 'not racist.'”

In order to be the best allies we can be in the Movement for Black Lives,
we can’t just say we’re not racist. Instead, we must re-commit ourselves
to being actively anti-racist and doing the work that goes along with that
— because it’s the only way to create a truly just and free world for
every body. [ [link removed] ]John, will you do your part and join us on this journey?

Like I said last week, we’re in this together as we take the time to
listen, learn, and really do the work. I’ll be there every step of the
way. It won’t take a day or a week. It’s a lifelong commitment, and I hope
you will make it with me.

In gratitude,
