I hope you'll forgive me reaching out to you again. You might have missed my email about our Big Give matched funding appeal. Although we've had a great response, we haven't raised as much as we hoped. And I’m worried we’ll miss out on precious matched funds.

If you did miss my email, let me tell you about the vital work you’d be funding. We know that UK businesses are helping to drive the destruction of the world’s forests through their harmful supply chains. Unbelievably, when companies cause the loss of irreplaceable wildlife and people’s rights are violated in the pursuit of profit, rarely is anyone held to account.  

The UK government is letting companies get away with it. But we won't. We’re pushing for a strong new law to hold companies legally accountable. We want to expose the truth: the links between UK companies and environmental destruction overseas. And we’re standing with the forest defenders risking everything to protect their homes.

To put this global devastation into context, I can share some examples from Indonesia – one of the countries where we support our partners to expose human rights and environmental abuses.

Palm oil producers steal land from communities to make way for featureless palm oil plantations. Palm oil that’s bought up by UK companies. Elsewhere the expansion of a UK-owned gold mine means more precious forest will be lost – threatening a critically endangered orangutan species and polluting waterways essential for people’s livelihoods.

But when forest defenders speak up, they can face intimidation or even imprisonment. Are you ready to stand alongside them with a donation to our Big Give appeal?
