Dear Friend, Rooftop solar is facing a grave risk — and we need your help! An anti-renewable energy group called New England Ratepayers Association (NERA) has filed a petition with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to take the power to regulate rooftop solar away from the states and give it to FERC. Currently, each state regulates what homeowners are paid for the power they sell back to their utility through a process known as net metering. Net metering has been in place for years and is working well. NERA is asking FERC to compensate homeowners with rooftop solar panels at a much lower rate for the power they sell back to their utilities. Take action now to save solar. If FERC agrees to NERA’s demands it would have a devastating impact on rooftop solar power nationwide. The over 2 million people with solar panels on their homes could suddenly find those panels are no longer affordable. Homeowners thinking of adding solar to their homes will think twice. This will devastate local solar installers nationwide causing job losses at a time when the industry has already lost thousands of jobs due to the pandemic. It will also be devastating for the environment, since the US will get less power from clean solar energy. Join Green Americans nationwide in calling on FERC to reject NERA’s petition and leave the power to regulate solar net metering with the states. For a green economy, |
