USA for UNFPA

For over half a century, UNFPA has been at the forefront of protecting maternal and infant health, empowering women with family planning options, and combating violence against women and girls, including harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).

Our initiatives for women and girls are not only cost effective — they work. Research shows an $8 economic return for every dollar directed towards women’s health and family planning.

Despite these efforts, the U.S. government has cut off all funding to UNFPA, halting critical aid for millions of families across the world.

But there is hope. The Support UNFPA Funding Act has recently been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. This act would secure vital resources for expectant mothers, infants, and women and girls worldwide.

We urgently need your help. Please take a moment to contact your Member of Congress, urging them to co-sponsor this crucial piece of legislation. We’ve prepared a letter — all you need to do is make a few clicks!

The results speak for themselves: since our inception, maternal deaths during childbirth have decreased by 40% globally. The number of women accessing modern contraception has doubled, and millions of girls have been spared from child marriage, teenage pregnancies, and FGM.

It's heartbreaking to see our government abandon work that made the U.S. safer and more prosperous.

Especially because UNFPA excels in resource efficiency — we make the most of our funding including from governments or generous donors like you:

  • $5 equips a pregnant woman with an emergency birth kit for safe delivery amid crises.
  • $15 supplies women and girls with essential hygiene items to maintain their dignity during displacement or conflict.
  • $45 gives a new mother comprehensive care supplies for herself and her newborn.

With the shuttering of USAID, international organizations dedicated to women’s welfare are scaling back operations, which makes UNFPA needed now more than ever. The reintroduction of the Support UNFPA Funding Act by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan comes as a beacon of hope.

Could you spare one minute today to urge your Member of Congress to endorse the Support UNFPA Funding Act? This legislation is critical in preserving lives across 150 countries, benefiting mothers, newborns, and countless women and girls.

TAKE ACTION: SPEAK UP TODAY

Our recent nationwide petition revealed a groundswell of support from all 50 states for global women’s rights. So much that lawmakers in Congress were surprised to see that so many Americans stepped up to say they care about women and girls in need. Can we count on you to sustain this momentum by contacting your Member of Congress directly?

Together, our shared commitment ensures no woman or girl is left behind.

With gratitude,
