Dear Friend,
As I said last week, it is simple to say that reform and action are necessary from our leaders at every level—it is now time for our collective mourning to be met with swift action.
That’s why I am standing with Representatives Pressley, Omar, Lee, and Bass to support H.R. 988 to:
-
Condemn brutality, racial profiling and excessive force used by law enforcement
-
Call to end militarized policing practices
-
Hold police officers and departments accountable to their actions
-
Express needs to reform policing policies at every level
Add your name as a citizen co-sponsor of this bill to demand justice for Black Americans who have long been brutalized and killed at the hands of law enforcement.
As Representative John Lewis once said:
"We have a right to protest for what is right. That's all we can do. There are people hurting, there are people suffering, so we have an obligation, a mandate, to do something.”
Too many have overlooked and allowed the profiling, surveilling, and killing of Black Americans.
It is time for justice for George Floyd, for Breonna Taylor, for Sandra Bland, for Eric Garner, for Philando Castile, for Antwon Rose II, for Botham Jean, for so many Black Americans.
Because, in a just world, they would still be alive.
In solidarity,
Madeleine Dean
