Friends,

Yesterday’s primary here in Georgia proved that our Secretary of State is incompetent and unfit to serve in a position of trust over the citizens of our state.

With long lines and broken machines across the state, we saw the worst of what can be done to our sacred democratic process -- all thanks to Secretary of State Raffensperger’s disdain for the right of Georgia voters to cast their ballots in a free and fair election.

But we also saw Georgians fight to exercise their right to vote. They waited in endless lines -- the last vote was cast well after midnight today -- in thunderstorms and heat. They exercised social distancing where possible, because this election occurred during the midst of a pandemic. Through it all they refused to let their voices be silenced.

We saw the worst from the Secretary of State, but the best from everyday Georgians.

Now, each one of those Georgia voters deserves to have their ballot counted and their voice heard, including those who voted after polls closed, given their hours-long wait in line and those who voted by absentee ballot.

To discount the votes of these Georgians would be a disgrace, and it would go against the foundational principle of American democracy: That ours is a government by and for the people.

We’ve heard that at least one candidate is claiming victory already - just based on the partial results that are available. But know this: hundreds of thousands of voters have yet to have their ballots counted.

Dismissing or ignoring these voters is an audacious affront to the entire voting rights movement -- and takes a page straight from the voter suppression playbook championed by Republicans like Brian Kemp and Brad Raffensperger. And we won’t stand for it.

The Sarah for Georgia campaign is committed to ensuring that that not only can every eligible voter cast their ballot, but that those ballots will be counted.

In the aftermath of this election, one riddled with preventable complications thanks to poor Republican leadership, Democratic candidates for elected office awaiting results should be more invested in protecting Georgia voters’ rights than in advancing their own political careers by declaring victories that disdain the votes of Georgians.

Team Sarah will lift up the voice of every voter. We will fight to ensure that every Georgian is heard in this election and in those to come, and we will never stop fighting against voter suppression, no matter what form it takes.
