The San Francisco County Transportation Authority allocates $700,000 in Neighborhood Transportation Program (NTP) funds to Supervisor district offices to spend on capital and planning projects in the district.
Our office has created a nonbinding survey to learn where you are experiencing issues and inform our decisions about how to direct these funds. Should we add more speed humps to slow car traffic, or add painted safety zones to reduce pedestrian collisions? The choice is yours by filling out the

As covered in the

San Francisco Chronicle today, our primary goal with the funding spend is to improve street safety for all road users. These funds will support small projects that can make a big difference in reducing speeding, increasing visibility of pedestrians, and making for safer intersections.
Be a part of the decision making process on how to spend District 5's NTP funds! Fill out the survey

I look forward to your input.

Legislation Update
The Safeway in the Fillmore shut down earlier this year, and part of the reason it has been difficult for a new grocer to occupy the site has been red tape.
During last week’s Land Use Committee meetings, I partnered with Supervisor Sherrill to amend his “Van Ness Conditional Use authorization to Pre-existing Formula Retail” ordinance to expand the easing to areas outside the Van Ness Corridor - including the Fillmore Safeway.
Prior to the passage of this legislation, empty storefronts like the Walgreens around the city or the Safeway in the Fillmore would require potential new businesses to apply for a conditional use authorization, which typically adds 6 months to 1 year to the timeline to open shop. With this legislation, which passed unanimously, we will make it easier and faster for businesses to move into our storefronts.

I am excited to share that the Data and Information Subscriptions legislation I introduced has passed the Board. This legislation will modernize our government for the 21st century by allowing city departments like the City Library, Administrator, Assessor-Recorder, and Treasurer to access digital subscriptions more easily so they can better serve residents. In response to the data sharing agreement between the IRS and ICE to facilitate the sharing of confidential taxpayer information related to undocumented immigrants, I introduced legislation reaffirming the City’s non-cooperation with government registries based on religion, national origin, or ethnicity.
This week, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt the resolution, sending a clear and united message: the city stands firm in protecting the rights of all residents—regardless of where they come from or how they worship. Read

Commendation
This week I had the honor of presenting Grace Horikiri with a special commendation on behalf of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. We extend our deepest gratitude to Grace Horikiri for her years of tireless service to the Japantown Community Benefit District and the Nihonmachi Street Fair. Her visionary leadership revitalized Japantown’s small business community, especially during the pandemic, while preserving its rich cultural heritage. Thanks to Grace, Japantown remains a vibrant, thriving hub of community, culture, and inclusion. We celebrate her lasting impact and visionary stewardship of community, culture, and inclusion.
In the Heart of the Community
EMPIRE Arab American Heritage Month
This month is Arab American Heritage Month, and to celebrate I joined EMPIRE for a night celebrating Arab American artists who create art and contribute to culture. I had the pleasure of presenting Palestinian artist MC Abdul, who performed at our first ever Eid Street Fair in the Tenderloin, with a Certificate of Honor on behalf of the Board of Supervisors. His incredible resilience to turn pain and trauma into art inspire many of the children in the Tenderloin.
NorCal Cherry Blossom Festival Grand Parade
Thousands of people came out to Japantown to celebrate the 58th NorCal Cherry Blossom Festival Grand Parade! Our contingent had the honor of marching alongside Hello Kitty’s best friend and parade Grand Marshal, My Melody. Thank you to all who joined with Pokemon, bubbles, and pups for such an amazing day.
HVNA Ham & Eggs
I joined our Hayes Valley neighbors on Saturday for the annual Ham & Eggs Breakfast! In remembrance of the tragic impact the 1906 earthquake had on the neighborhood, this event has become a joyful celebration of community, resilience, and gratitude. Congratulations to the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association on a successful (and tasty) event!
Small Wins, Big Impact
Off the Wall and Into the Win Column
Every act of care adds up—and this week, it added up to a cleaner corner at Fell & Broderick.
Thanks to the watchful eyes of a neighbor named Kevin, and the diligent work of the Department of Public Works, we’re happy to share that the graffiti at this long-tagged property has been removed. It took a bit of persistence, a few follow-ups, and some collaboration between the city and the property owner—but that’s how progress often works: one brushstroke at a time.
We’re grateful to Kevin for speaking up, and to DPW for seeing this through. When neighbors and city departments work together, even the most stubborn graffiti doesn’t stand a chance.
If you’re a property owner and want to stay ahead of graffiti issues, you can sign up for the Graffiti Abatement Opt-In Program
