Dear Friend,
Nancy Pelosi and her cronies are advocating that members should be able to vote for colleagues who are absent during the pandemic. This stunt called “proxy voting” is outrageous. You don’t just get to hand your vote to a friend. Not in times like these.
In giving members of Congress this ridiculous out, several things are happening:
- The voice of a district isn’t being heard. You can put in all the safe measures and backstops you want, but at the end of the day, an elected official who gives away a vote is still not doing the job the people elected you to do & that district’s voice is not being represented.
- Nancy is taking more control and more power. What’s the children’s book about giving a mouse a cookie? You give an inch and Nancy will take a mile.
- The Constitution, our founding document that set up the structure of our government, is being further pushed to the wayside and warped for political gain.
While it is important to be understanding and flexible during this time, Pelosi is creating a dangerous precedent and forcing the House down a slippery slope. She’ll do whatever she can to secure her party a victory, and the media is happy to let her do it.
As representatives, we are elected to have thoughtful debates and share the voice of our districts, not to just phone it in. I joined my colleagues in the lawsuit we’ve filed against Nancy for this egregious act.
Sincerely,
Jason Smith
