What happened in yesterday’s Georgia primary election was a disgrace, John.
Yesterday, Georgians went to the polls to exercise their constitutional right to vote only to be met with outrageously long lines and malfunctioning voting machines. Voters in many Atlanta precincts were forced to wait for hours in line to cast their votes. This is voter suppression, plain and simple.
Unfortunately, this is not new for the state of Georgia. If not for the systematic suppression of Black voters across the state in 2018, Stacey Abrams would be Georgia’s governor today.
An election where people must wait for hours to vote is not a free and fair election at all. It’s clear our election systems are at a breaking point, and we need immediate action to ensure a free and fair election in the fall.
Democrats in Congress must act immediately to ensure every American’s ability to exercise their constitutional right to vote by making Vote at Home mail-in ballots universal nationwide and restoring the protection of the Voting Rights Act.
If you agree, add your name to our petition today demanding Democrats use their leverage in the House and Senate to force these reforms as part of the next must-pass bill >>
No one should have to stand in line for hours to vote, especially in the middle of a pandemic.
That’s why Democrats need to stand strong and force critical voting rights legislation through Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act and allow every American to Vote at Home nationwide.
We cannot afford to be silent now. Without immediate action, millions of Americans across the country will be denied the ability to participate in our democracy.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep fighting for change.
