Hi ,

It’s not too late to RSVP for the unveiling of L.A.’s Black Future Newsstand exhibition next Friday, May 2nd! Thank you to our comrades Media 2070, Black River Life, Borealis Philanthropy's Racial Equity in Journalism Fund, and ZEAL Co-op who make installations like this possible.

Join Us on May 2nd
The exhibition will invite participants into a future on the other side of media reparations — an abundant world of journalism that celebrates Black multimedia storytelling, acts as caretakers of community stories, and provides a necessary interjection into the barrage of narratives grounded in anti-Blackness, militarization, and racial capitalism.

Our exhibition will feature:
  • 🤝 Riot to Repair: Community Archives on Media and Narrative Power: A collaboration between the Charlotta Bass Journalism and Justice Lab at the University of Southern California and Media 2070, this multimedia installation of over 70+ L.A. community members describes their lived experience of the death of George Floyd and the 2020 uprisings.
  • 📰 Black Future Newsstand: An art installation created by Media 2070 that overflows with visions of the abundant future Black communities deserve.
  • 📢 Panel Discussions: on the role of media and technology in preserving collective memory, the role of tech, and much more!

Installations like this dare us to dream of a future where we wield power of our own media and narratives, grounded in reparative storytelling. That’s why our strategy, #ShiftingTerrain, is building a people-centered landscape that drives us towards a liberatory future.

In collective solidarity,
