While benefiting from our rigged system, Amazon is also backing Trump’s regime—enabling our downward spiral into autocracy in a bid to get even richer. We all saw Jeff Bezos and the lineup of tech billionaires at Trump’s inauguration. Their full-throated support now includes giving Trump the tools to attack immigrants, federal workers, and our democracy.
Amazon’s cloud services undergird ICE’s technology platforms while the agency terrorizes and abducts people with impunity. Its approach to AI-powered surveillance — perfected in Amazon warehouses — has paved the way for Elon Musk’s DOGE to track federal workers. To top it all off, Bezos is making sure that the Washington Post (which he bought) only publishes opinions favoring “personal liberties and free markets,” which basically means in the interests of billionaires.
This isn’t new behavior from Amazon. The corporation has grown and dominated across industries by undercutting small businesses, pushing people to work at unsafe speeds, and squashing worker organizing efforts. At the same time, Amazon has deployed millions of dollars to avoid oversight, pass legislation in its favor, and effectively shape an economy that sucks the joy out of our lives.
Amazon and Jeff Bezos have gotten rich by creating the conditions for autocracy to grow — and now they want more.
But across the US, people have had enough of these tech bros and corporations embracing fascism and selling out our freedoms for more profit. Tesla Takedown protests are unfolding at showrooms and offices across the country, millions of people have taken to the streets for Hands Off rallies, and May Day marches and events are being planned across the country.
Amazon is the perfect example of why, in order to stop fascism, we must challenge the corporations that benefit from it. Over the next few days, our network will be taking action in cities across the country for workers’ rights and dignity, and for a system that puts the needs and wants of working people above massive corporations and billionaires.
Whether you’re in a big city or a small town, I encourage you to find a May Day rally in your area or to take action in any meaningful way that you can!
