The Impact Of Medicare’s Rural Add-On Payments On Supply Of Home Health Agencies Serving Rural Counties By Tracy M. Mroz, Davis G. Patterson, and Bianca K. Frogner
With the goal of increasing rural access to home health services, the Medicare program has periodically provided add-on payments to agencies serving rural communities. Tracy Mroz and coauthors analyze payments over more than fifteen years and find that only when add-on payments exceed 5 percent is there a positive effect on the supply of home health agencies

A CLOSER LOOK—Health Inequities
Health inequities among people of different races and ethnicities, geographic locations, and social classes are not a new phenomenon, although the size of the inequities has changed since researchers first began documenting them. A 2017 Health Affairs article highlights trends in four domains —health care technologies, health reform policies, widening socioeconomic inequality, and environmental hazards —that may exacerbate health inequities in the United States.
