Dear Friend,
In the newsletter this week...
* Six million people haven’t signed a petition calling for a general election
* This Daily Mail front page isn’t what it seems
* Viral post about Obama’s official White House portrait isn’t wholly accurate
* Government tracker
But first...
Yesterday (23 April), lots of people, from MPs to those in the media, marked St George’s Day. But… the Church of England released a note yesterday morning saying it would celebrate St George’s Day on Monday, 28 April instead.

So what is going on?
Well, Christian churches sometimes observe it on different days to match their calendar around Easter, when saints’ days aren’t marked. This year the Church of England and Catholic Church have “transferred” St George’s Day celebrations to Monday 28 April.
I hope this fact check wins you a future pub quiz.

Claims that a petition calling for an immediate general election has more than six million signatures are circulating on social media.
There is no petition calling for a general election with this many signatures on the UK Government and Parliament petitions website. We also couldn’t find a petition of this magnitude calling for a general election on other petition websites, such as Change.org.

** Viral post about Obama’s official White House portrait isn’t wholly accurate ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
A claim that a picture shows the official White House portrait of former US president Barack Obama, which current President Donald Trump refuses to hang or have an official unveiling for, is not wholly accurate.
This isn’t the official White House portrait of Mr Obama, which was unveiled in 2022 by former president Joe Biden. President Trump did not hold an unveiling ceremony for Mr Obama’s official portrait during his first term, but it does appear to still be on display in the White House.
