Evers Veto Allowed By Wisconsin Supreme Court

Last year, using much “creativity” with his veto pen, the Governor struck out a provision that added revenue limit authority for the 2024-25 school year and replaced it with funding until 2425, or 400 years later. This absolute abuse of a line-item veto was just okayed by the Wisconsin's Supreme Court.

WILL believes this ruling erroneously expands the powers of the governor in Wisconsin.

Regardless of the current political arrangement (a Republican Legislature and a Democratic Governor), such unprecedented power held by the executive should worry Wisconsinites.

WILL Highlights DEI Programs Within Health and Human Services, Demands Action

WILL has notified the Trump Administration of its latest report entitled, Roadmap to Equality: Healthcare, which identifies over fifty U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) programs and initiatives that mandate, permit, or promote discrimination on the basis of race in the public and private sectors.

Most of these schemes set forth classic forms of impermissible governmental race discrimination, long held to be unconstitutional. In particular, numerous HHS initiatives are impermissibly designed to implement a racial balance throughout the healthcare workforce and treat various health conditions in response to broad societal disparities.

In addition, many of these initiatives unlawfully require or permit federal funding recipients to implement the government’s plans for racial discrimination and segregation in various health and health-related policies and programs.

Our findings urge the new administration to carefully investigate the identified HHS initiatives and immediately cease enforcement of all unconstitutional and unlawful racial discrimination.

WILL Warns DPI About Risk of Federal Funding Loss for Wisconsin Schools

In an op-ed authored by Deputy Counsel, Dan Lennington, and Education Counsel, Cory Brewer, WILL issued a warning to the Department of Public Instruction and Superintendent Jill Underly, to comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, or potentially lose federal funding.

The U.S. Department of Education has set a deadline for Thursday, April 24, and DPI has said they plan to disregard the Trump Administration's request, which is causing a negative reaction from school districts that rely on these federal funds.
