Hi all,
Election deniers are at it again — trying to rewrite the federal voter registration form to make it harder for millions of Americans to vote.
This new escalation stems from Donald Trump’s executive order trying to illegally take control of our elections. He wants to hijack a nonpartisan body created to help run fair elections — the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) — to instead suppress votes. So now the EAC is reviewing whether to change the national voter registration form to require proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
Before officially making policy changes like this, the EAC has to solicit and consider comments from the American people. But they’re only accepting public comments until midnight tonight, Wednesday, April 23.
Election deniers are mobilizing their base to flood the EAC with comments right now — we can’t let them drown out the voices of voters like us. Take one minute to submit a public comment to the EAC before tonight’s midnight deadline, and speak out against this attempt to silence voters:
Let’s be clear: This is a backdoor attempt to implement Trump’s voter suppression agenda through executive order — including dangerous provisions from the SAVE Act.
It’s being pushed by the same election deniers who helped Trump try to overturn the 2020 election.
And we can’t let it go into effect — not without a fight.
Your comment can be as simple as 1-2 sentences saying why this change is dangerous. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections — and the federal voter registration form already requires you to swear you’re a U.S. citizen under penalty of perjury.
- Over 21 million Americans don’t have access to the kind of documents this rule would require — and half of all Americans don’t have a passport.
- This would create new government red tape, force people to spend money on expensive government documents, and make it harder to vote — especially for Black, brown, young, and low-income Americans.
- This change could suppress the voices of millions of eligible American voters.
This is part of the far-right’s national plan to suppress millions of votes in future elections. We can’t let them get away with it quietly — and no matter what comes next, we’ll continue to fight for our democracy.
Submit your comment today and if you can, share this email with 3 friends or family members. Each comment we leave matters — and collectively our voices can make a real difference.

P.S. It’s all-hands-on-deck right now to fight back against voter suppression, and if you’re able to make a donation of any amount to power this work, it would go a long way.
