John,
When I studied the Griswold v. Connecticut case in law school, the landmark ruling that first recognized a constitutional right to privacy, I walked past a Planned Parenthood clinic each day on my way to class. That case was a real, tangible promise that the government would stay out of the most personal corners of our lives. Today, that promise is under attack.
Across the country, extremist lawmakers are passing near-total abortion bans. They are targeting doctors for doing their jobs. They are charging patients with homicide. They are inserting the government into the deeply personal decisions between a woman and her doctor.
A year after the ruling that upheld access to mifepristone — a safe, effective medication used in more than half of all abortions in the United States — I’m reminded how urgently we must defend the right to privacy and reproductive freedom.
I believe every person deserves the freedom to make the decisions that are best for themselves and their families. That belief guided me when I first studied these cases. It guides me now in the Senate.
I will not stop fighting until that freedom is protected for everyone. Add your name to demand that Republicans stop interfering in our nation’s reproductive freedoms >> [link removed]
