Today is the anniversary of the Equal Pay Act. But over 50 years since the act was signed into law, we're still fighting to close the gender pay gap. Just last year, women earned only 81 cents for every dollar their male coworkers made.
The gap is even wider for women of color. Last year, Black and Latina women made just 75 cents for every dollar their male coworkers made. As folks are stepping up to fight for racial justice in Iowa and across the country, this pay gap is especially important to address. And right now, women are on the frontlines of the public health crisis, putting their lives on the line to do their jobs.
John, it's simple: there is no reason a woman should make less than her male coworkers for doing the same work.
As Iowa's next Senator, Theresa will work to finally close the gender pay gap. But first, we need to flip the U.S. Senate so we can pass meaningful legislation to tackle this injustice. If you agree it's time for change, add your name to join Theresa in the fight for equal pay in the workplace.
