Friend, a dangerous anti-immigrant bill is moving quickly through the Tennessee legislature, and we need your help to stop it. Tennessee lawmakers are rushing to pass SB 0836, a bill that would allow schools to deny children an education based on their immigration status. But the law is clear: The Supreme Court’s 1982 Plyler v. Doe ruling guarantees every child equal access to public K-12 education, regardless of immigration status. SB 0836 blatantly threatens that right and would violate the Constitution. We've been on the ground in Tennessee, working closely with our partners at the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) to stop this dangerous bill. With a Senate vote expected as early as next week, we need as many people as possible to make their voices heard: Schools are places to shape our children’s growth and futures, not to inject politics and discrimination. Friend, we’re urging Tennessee state senators to reject this anti-child bill. Add your name to our petition in solidarity with Tennesseans, demanding state lawmakers protect every child’s right to a public education >>>
