PFAW Member -- I have some AMAZING news! A week after Election Day, the votes have been tallied and by roughly 2,000 votes, the Democratic primary for Baltimore mayor was just called for PFAW’s endorsed candidate – and close friend of the organization – Brandon Scott!! CONGRATULATIONS to Brandon for the hard-fought and well-deserved victory. Brandon will be an incredible Mayor and we look forward to supporting and working with him in that role. And THANK YOU to all the PFAW members – both in Maryland and across the country – who donated to support Brandon’s campaign and volunteered their time to call Baltimore voters from home and get out the vote for Brandon. From the Baltimore Sun: “Polls showed Scott as the only mayoral contender with near equal support among both black and white residents. He also appealed to younger voters. His surge of support from ballots that arrived in the final days of counting suggest he was a favorite among those who cast their votes at the last minute.” This supports what we’ve said about Brandon all along and shows that our work in the final days of this race to put Brandon over the top truly paid off. At 36-years-old, Brandon is a groundbreaking young progressive leader and his historic win in this election helps prove the model of PFAW’s Next Up Victory Fund. Next Up supports diverse, young progressive champions – age 40 and younger – running for state and local office with the mission to build lasting progressive power nationwide from the ground up and create a deep bench of winning progressive leaders. Supporting candidates who are not only young but who look like America is critical to inspiring and energizing key voting communities to exercise their rights and cast their ballots in races for every level of government. This work continues to have a major impact across the country and we know it will have its biggest impact yet in this year’s election in November. I hope you’ll join us in celebrating Brandon’s victory – it’s also a victory for his city, for progressives everywhere, and for America as a country. Thank you for everything you do! Lizet Ocampo, Political Director ----[previous message to PFAW members below for reference]---- PFAW Member, I’m writing today to ask for a small amount of your time to help elect a DYNAMITE young progressive champion as the next mayor of a major American city. Brandon Scott – a close friend of PFAW – is running to be the next mayor of Baltimore and he recently picked up the enthusiastic endorsement of the Baltimore Sun, the city’s major newspaper. PFAW’s Next Up Victory Fund endorsed Brandon in this race early on. Currently the president of the City Council, Brandon’s the strongest progressive in the race and he’s running on a platform to advance social justice and the common-sense reforms needed to secure a brighter future for the city’s residents. But his opponents in the Democratic primary – taking place THIS TUESDAY – are pulling out all the stops to crush his momentum … including one super PAC playing divisive racial politics by trying to smear his reputation among white voters – even when he has always been about bringing people together! (Brandon is African American and Baltimore is a 63% Black city, but he enjoys broad support across all demographics, including among the city’s white voters.) So we’re asking that you help US pull out all the stops to put Brandon over the top this Tuesday. Can you sign up to join a special PFAW virtual phone bank party on Monday, or sign up for another phone banking shift to call Baltimore voters from anywhere in the country between now and Election Day? We’re building progressive power from the ground up … but we need your help. Thank you for everything you’re doing to make 2020 a banner year for progressive victories. -- Michael Keegan, President
