“After everything, I’m still standing and if it wasn’t for me I wouldn’t be here. So I need to say thanks to myself for making it through every day.”

- *Makayla, a young person in Love146’s care.

When we met *Makayla, she’d already been through a lot. She came into our U.S. Survivor Care and began her journey of recovery from victimization. She finished high school and we were so proud of her!

But as you know, just because you’re working through heavy stuff doesn’t mean that life slows down. Just before COVID, Makayla welcomed the cutest baby girl into the world. Having a newborn during a pandemic was beyond stressful.

So when Love146’s Transitional Services launched in 2020, Makayla joined the program. We helped with the things that first-time parents need after being sent home with a tiny human – things like onesies, diapers, groceries, a listening ear, and a timely cup of coffee. We helped her build a resume and we journeyed with her as she began a career as a Personal Care Aide.

Now, years later, she’s reached a level of stability that has greatly reduced her risk for revictimization, and her little girl is growing up with more security than Makayla had at that age.

This is the type of life-changing support that Love146 offers young people who are recovering from trafficking. It’s changing the trajectory of their lives and the next generation.
