Today is Earth Day, a time when people around the world reflect on our relationship with the planet we share. At Love146, we’ve seen firsthand how connection with nature can help bring healing to youth in our Survivor Care Program. From snowshoeing excursions and beach trips to gardening. In all seasons, we go outside together.

For youth who have experienced trafficking, spending time outside can help them reset. It reminds them that they can feel strong and safe at the same time. In Survivor Care, time by the ocean or in the mountains has helped youth slow down, heal, and feel connected to themselves, to each other, and to this beautiful world around them.

Connection with nature can be a powerful part of trauma recovery. Your support helps make that possible for the youth in Love146’s Survivor Care Program.

Across our Survivor Care work, youth have found joy in caring for plants and animals. In the US, youth look forward to Wilderness School where they can experience challenge and refreshment in the outdoors. In the Philippines, animal care and gardening are part of our program. There’s something profound that can happen in a child as they tend to a seedling or bottle-feed a baby goat, and realize: I matter to this little one. I’m needed. I can nurture life and watch it grow.

Spending time outside, learning to nurture, and allowing themselves to be nurtured in return — it's all part of the healing journey you make possible for youth in Survivor Care.

Thank you, and happy Earth Day from all of us at Love146!

Founded in 2002, Love146 journeys alongside children impacted by trafficking today and prevents the trafficking of children tomorrow. Our prevention education and survivor care work has reached more than 80,000 young people. Our work is achieved through the power of relationships and collaboration, listening to those with lived experience, scaling proven practices, and challenging the systems that leave children vulnerable. Our core commitment is to do what is best for children.
