John, huge news – after months of public outcry, Elon Musk is finally leaving the White House. [1]
He should have never been there to begin with. But now, with millions of Americans rightfully outraged by his actions, Trump’s approval rating plummeting, and Musk’s companies feeling the pain as he's inflicting pain on everyday Americans, you've helped Fire Elon Musk, and that’s a huge win for We The People.
Common Cause led the way in calling for Elon Musk’s removal all the way back in February – because we couldn’t sit by in silence as Musk wreaked havoc on our schools, our healthcare, and our Social Security. [2]
In response, Common Cause members like you showed up big time – and together we:
- Made tens of thousands of calls to lawmakers, urging them to choose their constituents over an unelected billionaire.
- Bought an ad in the Washington Post demanding Musk’s firing… which the Post decided to censor, promptly backfiring and creating a national news story about press freedom. [3]
- Distributed and displayed thousands of “Fire Musk” stickers to build undeniable public momentum.
- Sent thousands of “pink slips” with Musk's name on them to Congress to make sure they got the message.
- Published polling showing that a near majority of registered voters wanted to fire Musk. [4]
- Gathered over 500,000 petition signatures opposing Musk’s involvement in government.
- Put up a billboard right in the center of Times Square, which Rachel Maddow featured on her show. [5]
There’s still more to do: Musk is claiming that even though he’s stepping back from his slash-and-burn campaign, he’d like to come back for “a day or two per week” – and either way, his “DOGE” department is still there. [1]
So, expect to hear from us in the coming weeks about how we can shut DOGE down for good, make sure Musk doesn’t ever come back, and begin repairing the damage.
But this win is an important reminder that organized people power can and will stop the Trump Administration from destroying our way of life.
