John,
We are rejecting the lie that there isn’t enough money to take care of our communities. Doctors and nurses are wearing garbage bags while police don riot gear. Teachers drain their savings to buy pencils for students while police roll through family neighborhoods in tanks. People sleep on cold streets over toxic subway vents for warmth while police spend millions in misconduct lawsuits protecting their own.

When its power was threatened by protests, the government mobilized its forces to shut down dissent in DAYS — yet SIX MONTHS into a pandemic, officials are still waffling on solutions to provide protection equipment to hospitals, resources for 40 million unemployed people, and nation-wide testing to halt the spread of a virus that has killed over 100,000 people and counting.

There has always been enough money— we just need to get our priorities straight. Join us tomorrow, June 11 at 8pm EDT / 5pm PDT for a mass training on what defunding the police means, why we must do it, and how we get there. [[link removed]]

Imagine a world where we stop investing in violent policing and start investing in giving people what they need. People who have a roof over their heads, who don’t need to wait hours in line for a hot meal, who are guaranteed meaningful work, who can access health care, who are given the tools and opportunity to build a secure future — these people are spared from the desperation that has driven us to this point, and our criminal “justice” system is part of the problem, not the solution. When our communities are given the proper resources, we can address conflict in a regenerative and restorative way.

We’ve seen it happen a hundred times already. When floods sweep away homes, when fires burn them to the ground, when coronavirus hit, when cops instigate riots — our communities are the ones who show up in force with mutual aid to help, to heal, and to rebuild. If we invest in building systems to actually help people, we can get rid of cops entirely.

Can you join us tomorrow at 8pm EDT / 5pm PDT to discuss and imagine a future where we take care of one another and get training for how to take on this immense, transformative work? Click here to sign up. [[link removed]]

They keep telling us “it is what it is.” It’s a lie, and we are demanding the change we deserve. Revolutionizing an entire society is big work, and we need as many people as possible to pitch in. Help us make it happen.

See you tomorrow,

Aru Shiney-Ajay
