Trump’s Department of Justice believes that “the 2nd Amendment is not a second-class right,” but what about the right of Americans to live freely, without the threat of being gunned down? 

In what is only the beginning of the Trump Administration’s assault on critically important gun violence prevention legislation, the Department of Justice announced the repeal of ATF’s “zero tolerance” policy, claiming that it “unfairly targeted law-abiding gun owners and created an undue burden on Americans seeking to exercise their constitutional right to bear arms.”

John, this analysis couldn’t be more wrong – it's just the administration using the Second Amendment as a scapegoat for their dangerous agenda. 

The “zero tolerance” policy did not impact gun owners, it only made it easier for the ATF to hold accountable gun dealers that willfully and egregiously broke the law. 

This policy didn’t create any new barriers to obtaining a firearm, it attempted to stem the flow of illegally sold weapons into the criminal market. 

The truth is, repealing this critical policy will allow rogue gun dealers to stay in business, even if they sell guns to prohibited purchasers or fail to run background checks – and we will all be less safe.
