It’s Earth Day, normally a time to celebrate our environment and all we’ve
done to preserve and protect it for future generations. But this year is
different.
Donald Trump and his administration are taking a chainsaw to the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), federal research funding, and
regulations that keep our environment clean and safe.
In just the first 100 days of his second term, Trump has:
* Once again pulled us out of the Paris Climate Agreement;
* Rolled back critical environmental protections and set energy
regulations to expire in 5 years;
* Issued an order to block states from enforcing their own laws to
combat climate change
* Banned over 250 words from federal websites and materials, including
clean energy, climate crisis, climate science, pollution,
science-based, social justice, and vulnerable populations;
* Attempted to cut $14 billion in clean energy grants and defunded
federal climate science and weather tracking;
* Declared a “national energy emergency” to boost fossil fuel production
and demanded a return to coal, the most carbon-intensive fuel;
* Began dismantling the EPA, including terminating more than 200 federal
workers focused on environmental justice.
He’s also planning to cancel research grants meant to protect children
from toxic chemicals like PFAs, and is reportedly going to try rescinding
the tax-exempt status of non-profit environmental organizations.
Clean air and water, and a livable planet protected from the worst impacts
of climate change should not be a partisan issue. But Trump’s
administration and the modern Republican Party are more concerned about
prioritizing the profits of Big Oil, Gas, and Coal — some of their largest
campaign donors — over the well-being of people and our planet.
As our Attorney General, Rob has always supported climate action and
environmental protections. He’s taken on the fossil fuel industry in court
and supported bold action to reduce vehicle emissions and other greenhouse
gases — and he’s keeping up the fight to protect California from Trump’s
environmental roll-backs.
But he can't do this alone. We need grassroots support to keep Rob in
office working to ensure California remains at the forefront of
environmental protection and action on climate.
