Friend,
Yesterday afternoon, Governor Roy Cooper announced a new Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice and named AG Josh Stein as one of its co-chairs.
Along with NC Associate Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls, Josh will be leading the charge to analyze North Carolina’s criminal justice system and propose actionable legal changes to eliminate racial biases and inequities. Here is a clip of Josh’s remarks:
Racism has unfortunately plagued our country since its founding -- affecting everything from economics to education to healthcare. We will not be able to move forward until we have addressed the problem at its roots.
This is a time for self-reflection, self-examination, and then action.
Everyone should feel safe in their homes and in their communities. That starts with creating a criminal justice system that works for everyone, no matter who you are.
Josh is looking forward to working with Justice Earls and the other members of the Task Force to bring about real change in the criminal justice system.

Together,
Team Stein
