![]() Here's a shocking fact, John: Planet-wide, we've consumed as many resources in just the last 6 years as we did in the entire 20th century.1 Too many of those resources ultimately end up as pollution, including growing piles of plastic waste. PIRG is working to phase out the most wasteful plastics, and hold polluters accountable. It won't be easy, but we have decades of experience taking on tough campaigns, and winning real results. That's why generous donors will match your Earth Day gift, up to $10,000 nationwide -- but only until midnight tonight. Help put our planet over plastic. Make your Earth Day donation now. Thank you for making our work possible, Faye Park
John, The global economy has consumed the same amount of resources in the last 6 years as it did in the entire 20th century.1 And far too many of those resources are turned into stuff that ultimately becomes pollution. The plastic waste Americans throw away over the course of a single day could fill the country's largest football stadium to the brim.2 We can't end this vicious cycle of production and waste as individuals. Corporations need to do their part to protect the planet, too. It's hard to avoid plastic while shopping. Almost everybody has had the experience of ordering something from Amazon, only to open a delivery full of excessive plastic padding and packaging. With at least 16 million deliveries every day -- each packed up in paper and plastic -- Amazon is a prime example of a company that produces a lot of waste.3 By one estimate, Amazon's shipments generated enough plastic waste in just one year to encircle the Earth in plastic air pillows 800 times.4 But at PIRG, we're working to unwrap the Earth from plastic -- and winning. Thanks in part to our campaign calling on the company, Amazon has replaced the plastic air pillows from deliveries in North America with recyclable alternatives.5 There's more work to do to confront the plastic waste problem, but we'll carry the momentum from Amazon's commitment forward into a greener future. We just need your support to do it, John. Donate to help us meet our $25,000 Earth Day goal and build a future beyond plastic. The PIRG team is built for the job of winning campaigns like our recent Amazon victory. We've got some important players on our side: Skilled researchers, dedicated advocates, and grassroots supporters like you. Together, we're continuing to urge Amazon to take the next step toward reducing plastic waste even more -- and asking other companies like Costco, Sysco, and Trader Joe's to do their part, too. With your help, our next victory could be just around the corner. Will you support our work to confront plastic pollution with a gift today? Thank you, Faye Park Your donation will power our dedicated staff of organizers, policy experts and attorneys who drive all of our campaigns in the public interest, from banning toxic pesticides and moving us beyond plastic, to saving our antibiotics and being your consumer watchdog, to protecting our environment and our democracy. None of our work would be possible without the support of people just like you. | |
