Hi John,

For several decades, I’ve seen the power of service firsthand. Thousands of AmeriCorps members have served with our organization… turning jump ropes, high-fiving students, and bringing together parents to ensure all kids benefit from playing every day across our communities.

Now, the future of AmeriCorps is at risk. Alongside our friends at Voices for National Service, we’re asking you to take 1 minute to send a letter to your lawmakers using this form <[link removed]> and/or to call your members of Congress to urge them to protect AmeriCorps.

As you may have seen in the news, 85% of AmeriCorps agency staff have been put on administrative leave. This led to the abrupt "demobilization" of AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps members. Even though this service corps has consistently maintained bipartisan support, it is widely expected that next year’s opening federal budget proposal will include zero funding for AmeriCorps. We are very concerned this path could effectively dismantle AmeriCorps and jeopardize the critical – and effective – programs that serve local communities, like Playworks.

Without AmeriCorps, Playworks would not be able to impact as many kids, schools, or communities. Kids could miss out on the experience of trying new sports, for example, as AmeriCorps members at Playworks schools run our developmental sports leagues. For decades, AmeriCorps members have dedicated their years of service to playing with kids on Playworks’ playgrounds, connecting with students so they can develop into their best selves.

We are calling on you to help show support for AmeriCorps and the millions of children who benefit from their service. Please call or write letters to your members of Congress now. We must act swiftly, strategically, and together to address this challenge.

With gratitude,

Elizabeth Cushing
CEO
