Supporting western North Carolina in the first 100 days and beyond

"We’ve spent the first 100 days fighting for the people of western North Carolina, and we will not stop now. I am grateful for all the progress we have made to help western North Carolina rebuild and for our partners who are working to support their communities each and every day. We cannot forget western North Carolina.” — Gov. Josh Stein

Supporting recovery and rebuilding in western North Carolina has been a primary goal of Josh’s administration. On his 100th day in office, Josh returned to western NC again to meet with local leaders and reaffirm his commitment to our communities.

He also helped North Carolina’s own Eric Church break ground on a new housing development to get folks in hard hit areas back into homes.

In March, Josh also visited western NC to commemorate the 6 month anniversary of the storm. You can watch his remarks here. [[link removed]]

Josh knows that western North Carolina will need continuing support in the months ahead. That’s why he’s calling for more relief funding in a second recovery budget proposal to the General Assembly. [[link removed]]

Josh proclaimed April Sexual Assault Awareness Month in North Carolina

“Sexual assault is a heinous crime. We must dedicate ourselves to pursuing justice for every survivor. I am proud of our bipartisan and cross-agency efforts to eliminate North Carolina’s rape kit backlog. We must continue this partnership by funding a Cold Case Unit to help law enforcement get more offenders off the streets. I am also grateful for organizations like the Guilford County Family Justice Center, which empower survivors and educate communities to better recognize signs of abuse.” — Gov. Josh Stein

Josh has long advocated for sexual assault survivors, including by prioritizing clearing North Carolina’s rape kit backlog during his tenure as Attorney General. You can learn more about that work here. [[link removed]]

As governor, his budget proposal includes funds to create a sexual assault cold case unit of experienced officers to assist in achieving justice for survivors.

Josh also visited the Family Justice Center in Guilford County, which helps people in the aftermath of sexual assault. Check out this video to learn about them. [[link removed]]

$31 million in broadband investment to keep NC connected

“No matter where you live in the state, you should have access to high-speed internet. Broadband is critical to providing more economic opportunity to every corner of the state, and I am proud to create a stronger and more connected North Carolina for every person and small business owner.” — Gov. Josh Stein

Josh was proud to announce critical investment from the Completing Access to Broadband program that will help tens of thousands of North Carolinians get online.

Funded by federal American Rescue Plan funds with additional funding from broadband providers, this program is key to helping close North Carolina’s digital divide.
