John --

57 years ago today, JFK signed the Equal Pay Act. It was a remarkable moment for America to finally go to the bat for women’s pay equality in the workforce.

The legislation created new protections for working people and demanded that no person be paid less than their counterparts on the basis of gender. It was a good start, but the truth of the matter is that it did not usher in a true standard of pay equality that we desperately need.

The gender pay gap persists today, especially for communities of color.

Asian women earn 90¢ for every dollar a white man earns.
White women earn 79¢.
Black women earn 62¢.
Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander women earn 61¢.
American Indian or Alaska Native women earn 57¢.
Hispanic women earn 54¢.

Thankfully we can change that. Right now, the nation is coming together, organizing, and demanding change in America -- and that includes changes in the workplace. Now is the time to ensure that all people receive fair and equal wages for a hard day's work -- regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or creed.

If you agree, join our campaign and commit to modernizing the Equal Pay Act to protect all people from pay discrimination. Sign your name >> We can do so much better. As the nation cries out for change and justice, it's up to people like you and me, John, to fight for equality in every aspect of our communities.

A good place to start is with people's wallets. Let's make sure that any person doing the same job as a coworker gets paid the same. Let's start a conversation that shines a light on pay discrepancies. Let's move boldly to a future that protects and supports workers so everyone earns a fair and living wage.

But if the last few days have shown us nothing else, it's that when you try to take on structural issues and fight for true equality, the status quo fights back. We need to stand together, we need your voice to call for change with us. Otherwise, change may not come.

John, can you sign our petition and join our campaign's call to modernize and strengthen the Equal Pay Act? Standing Tall For All,

J.D.
