Huge programme of transport improvements planned for Nottingham
*"A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:"*
Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council
Getting around the city safely and quickly as we come out of the coronavirus restrictions will be a priority for us all. As we start to shape the new normal, I am delighted that the green light is set to be given to a massive programme of transport improvements in Nottingham, with a raft of local transport schemes receiving unprecedented financial backing from the Government.
A 161m package of schemes will strengthen connections between major employment sites, upgrade public transport including Park and Ride options and improve routes for people on foot or bikes. One of the major schemes for Nottingham is the long-awaited welcoming entrance to the city from the south. Connections between Nottingham and Derby will also be improved.
An extra 2.5m of Government funding has been provided for temporary measures to help us out of the lockdown. Some will be used to install pop-up facilities ahead of the full schemes so people can start to use these routes as lockdown restrictions are eased.

Whilst we are pleased to receive this investment in transport it doesnt make up for the extra costs incurred and lost income over the Covid pandemic. The Government had committed to recompensing councils for this but they have not yet kept their promise.

*Ensuring people are safe and well in Nottingham *
Nottingham has over 11,000 extremely vulnerable people in shielding measures. Weve been phoning each and every person to check they are safe and to ask them if they need help. If we cant get through to them on the phone, then a Community Protection Officer will visit them to check theyre ok. There are also just under 6,000 socially vulnerable people who we know have extra support needs. Weve been contacting each and every one of those people too. Remember if you need help during COVID-19 you can call the Council on 0115 915 5555 or visit [link removed] [ [link removed] ]
Id like to thank the Customer Hub staff for their commitment and professionalism in setting up this vital service to help the city through this crisis. You can meet some of the team in the following video.
